I have been noticing that the steering in the Xtreme was getting more and more play in it. I ran across an article on gmtruckhq.com, that explained how to replace the ragjoint at the end of the steering column with a universal joint.

I had inspected the rag joint and it looked good, but the truck has 95k, so I thought what the heck. The only thing different I did from the article was I bought a extra lower steering column on Ebay. You see you have to cut the rag joint off and cut a ¼ inch off the end of the column. So I figured if I did not like the mod or I screw it up, I at least have a spare and can return it to stock.

I would rather not steal this idea and try to pass it on as my own, so I am not going to go into the steps. Just go to gmtruckhq.com, under forums then general suspension. The article is titled “Flaming River u-joint mod.” Flaming River makes the u-joint and I picked mine up at Summit Racing.

The difference in steering response is amazing. No more play. Thanks orangesonoma.
